FINE ARTS at SIMMONS

ART

The Simmons Arts Department welcomes all new students!  For those interested in 2D and 3D art forms, make sure to indicate Art as your elective preference when selecting your courses.  In addition, for those of you in band and choir, an extracurricular art club meets after school to work on various large scale projects throughout the school.  For additional information on our program, please visit our website.

BAND

Welcome new students! Band is an exciting opportunity for ALL students, regardless of how much you already know about music and playing an instrument. At Simmons we have a beginning band, Cadet Band, Honors Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band.  For more information about our band program, please visit the band webpage.

CHOIR

Be a part of the Simmons Choral Department!  Music is something that speaks to everyone which is why choir is such an awesome opportunity for everyone.  At Simmons we have a 6th grade mixed choir, 7th Grade mixed Choir, 8th Grade mixed choir, and Synergy (an auditioned choir/show choir).  Outside the school day we have several choirs as well.  Girls Chorale is an auditioned girls only choir for 7th and 8th graders.  Synergy also meets outside the school day.

THEATRE

Theatre at Simmons has several facets: in-class, technical, and extra-curricular. The in-class program is offered via the exploratory elective track. 6th graders will spend 9 weeks in the department exploring the basics of theater (movement, voice, and character). 7th graders will spend 9 weeks, with an option of electing an additional 9 weeks, expanding on what they learned in 6th grade while adding a basic knowledge of technical theater. 8th grade students will have the option of choosing theater by the semester or year and will delve further into technical theater as they design costumes and sets and also assist in the prop and set construction for the school plays.

Extra-curricular theatre at Simmons allows students in other departments to participate in the performing arts. In the fall we present a large scale musical.  Our 2012 musical, Once on This Island Jr. had the distinct honor of performing at the Alabama State Thespian Festival and the National Junior Thespian Festival in Augusta, GA. In the spring, we present a play as part of our theatre outreach program. This play targets younger audiences and travels to 5 local elementary schools to perform free of charge. For additional information about the Simmons Theatre Department, visit:
